Overseas, the franchise has endured mostly within a niche level, but its fans are die-hard and find plenty to love from it, whether it be the complex, relatable characters or the rich themes that have inspired plenty of academic debate on its themes. In its homeland of Japan it’s impossible to avoid the sheer impact of its revolutionary artistic intent and iconic mecha designs, as numerous products, vehicles, and even musical roads bear a distinct connection with the Evangelion brand. ![]() It goes without saying that Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most well-known, acclaimed, and virtually unforgettable series out there, anime or not. (Other note: The version in which I watched the original series was the ADV dub released from ‘97 to ‘98, as opposed to the original Japanese-language audio. Due to the nature of the film being a recap of Evangelion’s first 24 episodes, as well as exhaustive breakdowns for every episode, there will be spoilers a-plenty.
